NPR piece on Female Libido

Listening to the NPR piece: Female Libido Pill Fires Up Debate about Women and Sex correlates well with what we've been discussing in class regarding the bio vs. psychosocial aspects of desire and sex. A women speaking in the piece shares the the proposed drug will decrease anxiety and increase desire; although decreasing anxiety may be beneficial, I think what is more important is the acknowledgement of the relationship dynamics, specifically the aspect of distance and individuality that both Schnarch and Perel discuss.
The woman originaly presenting in the piece sharing her dilemma with her husband, shares herself that she and her husand's relationship was going really well (aside from sexual intimacy) leading up to their sexual desire problems. It seems to me that this aligns with Perel and Schnarch's paradoxical argument that distance actually leads to closeness and sexual intimacy. It saddens me that women are putting themselves in danger physically and emotionally in helping drug companies test new libido-increasing drugs, when behavioral techniques could be more beneficial and far less risky.
